Lithology and Thickness
In the South Gissar region, the lower part of the Upper Cenomanian, Tagarin horizon (тагаринский горизонт) is composed of gray limestones, sandstones, and clays up to 25-45 m thick.
In the Dushanbe region, the Tagarin horizon (Тагаринский rорv.зонт) of the Upper Cenomanian is greenish-gray sandstones with layers of limestone and siltstones, occasionally clays (40-60 m).
In the Kafirnigan district, the Tagarin horizon of the upper Cenomanian has a three-part structure: at the bottom are limestones and clays, in the middle part - variegated argillites and clays, at the top - organogenic limestones. The strength of the horizon is 45-50 m.
In the Vakhsh district, , the Tagarin horizon of the upper Cenomanian has in the Vakhsh district a structure similar to that described for the Kafirnigan district, its strength is 80-135 m.
In the Darvaz district, Tagarin horizon (агаринскому горизонтам), which make up the upper Cenomanian sub-stage, are related to three suites: Rovkin Fm (ровикинская) (gray sandstones with layers of limestone, 50 - 100 m), Budalyk Fm (будалыксю-tя) (reddish conglomerates, sandstones and aleurolites, 20-200 m), Izhudarin Fm (иджударинская) (gray biogenic limestones, 10-50 m).
In the Karategin region, Tagarin horizon (агаринскому горизонты) - interbedded limestones, sandstones, and clays (40-50 m).
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Overlies the Karikansau Fm of lower-middle Cenomanian or lies with a sharp angular unconformity on the Paleozoic.
Upper contact
Overlain by the Gazdagan Fm of upper Cenomanian.
Regional extent
Afghan-Tajik Basin. It is widespread in South Gissar region, Dushanbe region, Kafirnigan district, Vakhsh district, Darvaz district, Karategin region.

In the Darvaz district, Izhudarinskaya (иджударинская), Caprinula soluni Bobkova, Ichtyosarcolites tricarinatus Parona, Archimedea asiatica Djalilov and others. In the Karategin region, Rhynchostreon chaperi (Bayle), Korobkovitrigonia darwaseana Rom., Modiolus cf. bukharensis Bobkova, Archimedea asiatica Djalilav, etc.
